Description
Iceland is home to about 60% of the world's Atlantic Puffin population. They spend the majority of the year living out on the open sea, then in spring come backshore to roost. They make deep burrows in the grass on cliffs and may produce one offspring per year. Puffins change colors and even beaks to a less vivid costume after the mating season to survive at sea. During their brief time on land, they are a delight to behold and draw locals and tourists out to see them and their antics. (June 2022)
