Description
One summer morning, I was standing on deck in the port of Tangier, Morocco. Looking Eastward, to the right, the Moroccan mountains stood prominently, and on the left was the strait of Gibraltar, the narrow strip of water connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. A fog started to roll in from the Mediterranean, so I went in to retrieve my camera and got this photograph.
"The Rock" of Gibraltar is a well-known fortress which participated in many wars through-out the centuries. It's interior is a labyrinth of passages and chambers which have housed supplies, ammunition, and some truly impressive cannon and naval guns.
Looking at it there, rising out of the fog on an ominously cloudy morning, you could just imagine being a ship trying to sneak past "The Rock" and gain passage to the Atlantic. Hoping the watchmen over there are distracted or asleep, and praying no cannonade flashes start blazing from the face of its frowning bulkā¦
